everyone shut up. the meaning of life is literally sharing moments with loved ones and baking bread and making soup and splitting clementines and singing songs and looking up at the same moon people thousands of years ago saw and getting that funny feeling in your chest that makes you hope good times like those and more never cease to exist. god

Many relationships would be a lot healthier if we romanticized honest, open and direct communication instead of idealizing the idea of a partner who’s intuitively in tune with your every need. You don’t need someone who can read your mind, you just need someone who’s willing to listen when you speak.

No matter how much charitable work or “advocacy” the wealthy participate in they will never be allies to the poor. Their charitable giving is tailored to maximize their tax deduction, full stop.
I have literally done those calculations where they calculate it down to the dollar. They form charitable trusts to reduce the amount of taxes they pay.
If they truly cared about society they would stop fighting paying the taxes that fund the social programs that do actually help reduce poverty.
To clarify: when I talk about the wealthy I am not talking about the person who makes a couple hundred thousand or even a million dollars a year in wages. That person will end up paying 37% tax on that money. I am talking about the generational wealth in the 10’s of millions. The money earned from holding specialized investments that results in the wealthy have an effective tax rate the same as you and me.
The wealthy are never on the side of the poor.
Refusing to eat isn’t “self control.” Losing weight at an unhealthy rate isn’t “self control.” Giving yourself the food that you do actually need in order to function, even though your unhealthy thoughts are telling you not to, is self control. Fighting back against your illness is self control; trying to fight against your basic human needs is not.
